VetWSS is in the second year of 4-year contract to remove and replace lead contaminate soil for 1,060 residential properties in Iola, Kansas. The city was home to four zinc smelters over 100-years ago and most of the town has been contaminated with waste from the facilities. The staff first obtains access agreements, then conducts pre-excavation meetings with each property owner. During the excavation process our personnel use an XRF to monitor the contamination level at 12” depth. We then import clean soil from a company-owned farm, grade the property, and place fescue sod over the finished topsoil. We then care for the sod for four months before doing a post-work interview with each property owner.
